More than 300 unionized workers – from nurses to housekeeping staff – staged a protest outside the Montreal General Hospital Wednesday afternoon against $50 million in spending cuts that they say are affecting patient care.
“The work climate is devastating,” said Paul Thomas, president of the McGill University Health Centre Employees Union.
The Gazette has reported that the job cuts at the MUHC are much deeper than previously disclosed – with more than 270 positions eliminated and scores more to go in the next two years.
