MUHC gets keys to the Glen Yard Superhospital
Keys to The Superhospital
Five weeks late and nearly $172 million in over budget the MUHC gets keys to the Glen Yard Superhospital.
Even though when the project was first approved as a public-private-partnership, the government of Premier Charest assured the site was being developed as a PPP to guarantee there would be no budget overruns.
The budget for the Superhospital was set at $1.3 million, but SNC-Lavalin billed an extra $172 million. Despite his predecessor’s promise Health Minster Gaetan Barret confirmed the pay the budget overruns if they are justified.
The PPP model finances and maintains the superhospital for 30 years, charging the government an annual rent. After the 30 years, the government takes full ownership of the facilities
The hospital is scheduled to open by the end of April 2015.
