MUHC to cut 10 per cent of superhospital specialist staff
The MUHC is cutting the number of medical specialists, by 10%. but Health Minister Gaétan Barrette is reluctant to call the reduction “a cut.”
Despite Health Minister Gaétan Barrette’s reluctance to refer to the loss as a “cut” the loss either through attrition or the redistribution of doctors will be about 85 positions at the new McGill University Health Centre superhospital.
“The plan was to take action so that patients in the suburbs would see services migrate from the MUHC and from McGill to their area,” said Barrette.
Dr. Diane Francoeur the head of Quebec’s medical specialists federation is also concerned.
“Hospitals [Regions] are already full. There are no operating rooms that have availability to work and see patients,” said Diane Francoeur.
