DOvEE Project Offers Free Ovarian Cancer Screening for Quebec Women 50-Years and Older
What is ovarian cancer ?
Ovarian cancer is a female cancer nicknamed the silent killer because its symptoms are often vague and ignored by women. For this reason it is often diagnosed late, which greatly reduces the chances of survival.

Not much in life is truly free, but DOvEE screening for ovarian cancer is one example for which the word free means free! The DOvEE project which is open to all women, not just for MUHC employees, who are 50 or older and residents of Quebec. What is the DOvEE Project?
The DOvEE project is a specialized clinical study for early diagnosis of ovarian cancer. Eligible women are invited for specialised medical tests to diagnose ovarian cancer as early as possible. In this way, diagnosis improves the chances
of survival and decreases invasive treatments.
Did You Know
- One in 72 Women in Canada will be affected by ovarian cancer.
- Of women that are affected 70% will be diagnosed with an advanced stage of ovarian cancer (stage 3-4).
- If diagnosed early the survival rate is 93%, if diagnosed late the survival rate is 10% to 30%.
Who can participate?
• You are a woman 50 years or older;
• You have had one or more symptoms described in this pamphlet for longer than 2 weeks and less than one year;
• You have at least one ovary.

• Access to several satellite clinics located throughout greater Montreal.

If you are eligible, you will quickly be given an appointment for your first visit.
- 1-Your first visit is a meeting with a healthcare professional to discuss the project and your medical history and a Blood test (CA-125).
- 2-Your second visit (Two weeks after your first visit) Appointment with a healthcare professional for a transvaginal
- ultrasound.
- 3-Your third visit(4 weeks after your second visit) Repeated blood test (CA-125).
- Follow-up (6 months after your last visit) Phone call to evaluate your health and ensure proper follow-up.
