More sewage floods at superhospital as MUHC, SNC-Lavalin hold urgent meeting
On Tuesday, a sewage pipe burst in the Breast Centre of the $1.3-billion superhospital in Notre-Dame-de-Grâce, flooding several rooms, prompting officials from the infection-control department to be present. In addition to the overflow on floors of raw sewage water that “looks like diarrhea,” the source said that fruit flies are coming out of the sinks.
At Wednesday’s meeting at MUHC headquarters at 2155 Guy St., Johnson Controls was also present. The global “building efficiency” company had been awarded a major contract for the plumbing at the superhospital. One of the purposes of the meeting was to address the complex challenge of how to open up blocked sewage pipes in the ceiling of an operating room without affecting the volume of elective surgeries.
