Information on the Upcoming MUHC CSN Employees Six Day Legal Strike

General Information for the 6 day legal strike

1- The 6 day legal strike by the MUHCEU-CSN union members will start on October 29, 2015.

2- On the day of the strike union delegates will visit each department to inform the members what time they will strike and where to go.

3- The 6 day legal strike was voted for at the General Assembly, all members who work that day will lose 42 minutes from their pay. If you’re off work, Vacation, day off, sick leave then you are not docked.  

4- There are exceptions for positions in departments where the law requires 100% service; currently they are ICU, Dialysis, OR, Main Recovery, Emergency. Union delegates will notify these members and update them on any changes.

5- On the sixth strike day, members who participate on the picket lines will receive strike pay, the amount of strike pay will be confirmed later.

*Important that you complete the  registration card when you arrive at the picket line.

6- All work performed by another worker, supervisor, manager, administrator, professional, unpaid or volunteer will be considered <scabs>. The union will not tolerate this and will file a penal complaint.

7- It is a penal offence for a manager or supervisor to prevent an employee from their right to strike.

8- For maximum impact the strike will strategically take place:

  • Day Shift:  Either before or after the break or lunch.
  • Evening Shift: Either before or after dinner.
  • Night Shift: Around 6 AM.

9- A worker who replaces a sick call is sill required to respect their strike time.

10- Employees with atypical hours exercise 10% of the planned number of hours based on the nomenclature. Example Mécanicien de Machines Fixes (MMF) 38.75 pm / 5 days x 10% = 46.5 minutes

11- Each member will strike for 10% of their work shift.

  • 7 hour shift = 420 minutes = 42 minutes
  • 7.25 hour shift = 435 minutes= 43.5 minutes
  • 7.75 hour shift = 465 minutes = 46.5 minutes
  • 4 hour shift = 240 minutes = 24 minutes
