The Coroner’s Office Quebec launches an investigation into the death of a patient who had been refused an operation for a ruptured aorta at St. Mary’s Hospital in Montreal.
Mark Blandford, 73, director, producer and screenwriter best known for his collaboration with Denys Arcand for Duplessis television series died on November 2 while being transferred from St. Mary’s Hospital to the McGill University Health Centre (MUHC), Glen site.
The hospital management had recently asked his vascular surgeon to cease to conduct some operations for administrative and budgetary reasons. Dr. Carl Emond told the Gazette that he held the evidence.
The coroner’s office said that all potential factors would be considered during the investigation, including whether the reorganization of the health system could have had an impact on the patient’s chances of survival.
This type of investigation can take up to 11 months, said the coroner’s office
