Quebec health minister won’t lower hospital parking rates after Ontario does

A day after the Ontario government announced that hospitals must freeze or cut in half their parking rates, Quebec Health Minister Gaétan Barrette does not intend to follow suit, his press attaché said Tuesday.
Fulfilling an election promise by the Ontario Liberals, the province’s Health Minister, Eric Hoskins, ordered hospitals that charge at least $10 a day for parking not to increase their rates. In addition, Ontario hospitals must start offering by Oct. 1 multi-day passes that are discounted the equivalent of at least 50 per cent of their daily rates.
Under the revised Ontario policy, multi-day parking passes will be transferable between patients and caregivers, will be good for one year from the date of purchase and will allow in-and-out privileges from hospital parking lots throughout a 24-hour period.
