The MUHC has agreed to sign a 15-year lease that would begin on Dec. 1.

The planned move follows a recommendation last year by a government-appointed monitor, Michel Bureau, who had been scrutinizing the MUHC’s finances. Bureau noted in his report that under the direction of then-CEO Arthur Porter, the MUHC started renting office space in 2005 on all floors of the 13-storey building at 2155 Guy St. without going to tender and without obtaining the required government approval.
In the last year of its current lease on Guy, the MUHC’s rent jumped by 13.6 per cent despite what experts have said is a glut of office space downtown.
The Montreal Gazette has learned that the MUHC is poised to move its headquarters to a building in the city’s west end, near the Décarie Expressway and close to the fabled Orange Julep.
Some of its administrative offices might remain on Guy, but the majority will have to move – a process that will begin on May 1 when the hospital network gains access to the new space. The MUHC has agreed to sign a 15-year lease that would begin on Dec. 1.
