MUHC Superhospital to undergo major $5 million ventilation system repair

$5-million repair job to its ventilation system

Barely a year after the state-of-the-art Montreal Children’s Hospital opened at the Glen site, the facility has to undergo a major $5-million repair job to its ventilation system,  forcing the closure of the pediatric intensive care unit.
The children are being moved to the adult intensive care unit of the Royal Victoria Hospital and newborns in the neonatal unit will be transferred to another section of the Children’s hospital.
MUHC officials confirmed that work is being done in several places at the Children’s but refused to provide details concerning the extent of the repairs and their impact on patients.
Major work is already underway to correct the ventilation system of the operating room of the MUHC superhospital, which is not up to standard.
In a legal document obtained by The Journal de Montreal, GISM estimates the cost of the “major work” to repair the ventilation (in eight locations) to be about five million dollars.

The SNC-Lavalin consortium that designed and built the new hospital filed a $330-million lawsuit against the MUHC in April.
