An overwhelming majority of the MUHCEU General Assembly has approved the modifications to the Statutes and Bylaws – a set of rules that govern the union.
The new modifications reflect the unique structure of the MUHC. With the relocation to the Glen Campus , three historic hospitals, the Royal Victoria, Chest Institute and Montreal Children’s were shutdown.
A committee of union delegates was created to review and update the statutes, based on feedback from the membership. The recommendations were then presented to the Executive Committee before a review and vote at the Union Council. The final step was the approval of the membership.
Updates to the Statutes and Bylaws introduce electronic voting, which the union hopes will help involve more of the membership in the election process. Elections will now have fixed dates, and take place every three years between September 15 and 30.
