That was the message the chair of the hospital network’s board of directors conveyed on Monday in a meeting with the Montreal Gazette editorial board.
He is calling on Premier Philippe Couillard to OK the creation of a joint committee of the MUHC board and the Health Department that would address four key issues, including finally appointing a permanent executive director. It would be on a tight schedule, with a report due by Labour Day.
The MUHC has managed a successful turnaround since the dark days of 2012, with a projected $115-million deficit, and posting a $42 million deficit because of provincial cuts in 2015-16. Bussandri said. ( Source Montreal Gazette )
“Based on todays reality it has been more of a survival then a success”, said Manuel Fernandes Interim President for the MUHC CSN employees union. “A success will be when the MUHC is livivng up to its full potential.”
“The creation of a joint committee is a good idea, but considering the MUHC provides a service, based on its staff, the committee should include union representation.”
“The renewal of the MUHC board of directors should also include a permanant seat for each of the three unions.” Fernandes said.
• Appointing a new executive director, the MUHC’s top administrator.
• Renewing the board of directors.
• Giving powers back to the board.
• Providing “stable and adequate funding.” Union leaders have said Quebec has cut about $120 million from the MUHC’s budget over the past five years.
