No merger for MUHC: Joshi report

There’s no interest in another structural reorganization or merger of the English-language mega-hospital, and its leadership and funding must be turned around “immediately,” concludes the “Joshi report” into the future of the McGill University Health Centre obtained by the Montreal Gazette.
Recent budget cuts and bed reductions were based on a 10-year-old clinical plan at the MUHC. About $120 million has been slashed from the institution’s operating budget and the number of beds chopped to 710 from 832.
However, the Joshi report also touches on concerns common to the entire health network in the midst of a huge transformation toward centralized health-care management. “Large scale changes that have generated tensions and stress for the system,” the report said.
Dr. Arvind K. Joshi, the former executive director of St. Mary’s Hospital, submitted his 41-page report in late April to Barrette after six months of extensive consultations of the MUHC community, including patients.
