Minister Barette appoints Recruitment Committee to select MUHC Board of Directors

Proposals to appoint new Independent Board members by August 28, 2017

In response to several weeks of discussion and responding to the community’s strong interest in becoming involved in the future of the McGill University Health Center (MUHC), the Minister of Health and Human Services Mr. Gaétan Barrette, set up a recruitment committee. Its mandate is to recruit, analyze potential nominations and make proposals to appoint new Independent Board members by August 28, 2017.
The Recruitment Committee is chaired by Mr. David McAusland and will be supported by seven other community members and a representative from the Department of Health and Social Services. All will have to analyze the applications received and propose at least two candidates for each of the profiles.  Source CNW Telbec
When asked if the appointment of a selection committee would reduced the chances for union seats on the board, Manuel Fernandes, interim president for the MUHC CSN Employees Union, replied,… “both Minister Barrette and the Recruitment Committee cannot ignore proper representation for the 10,000 employees who are the direct link to the patients.”
He went on to say, “We need to ask ourselves the question, if the unions had been on the board, would the events of recent years had taken place. From the start we were against the selection of Artur Porter as CEO, based on his performance at the Detroit Medical Center.”
Arthur Porter, the former MUHC CEO, faced charges in $22.5M kickback scheme in awarding the contract to build the $1.3-billion MUHC superhospital.  He died in Panama two years ago while contesting extradition to Quebec.
The alleged MUHC conspiracy has been described as the biggest corruption fraud in the history of Canada.

The committee will be composed of the following persons:

Dr. Olivier Court, McGill University Health Center
Jonathan Amiel, Montreal Children’s Hospital Foundation
Anna Martini, McGill University Health Center Foundation
Dr. David Eidelman, McGill University Health Center
Dr. David Mulder, McGill University Health Center
Isabelle Marcoux, Montreal Children’s Hospital Foundation
Seeta Ramdass, Users Committee of the McGill University Health Center
Pierre Lafleur, Department of Health and Social Services
