McGill University Health Centre to pay SNC-Lavalin consortium $108 million
In an out-of-court settlement, the McGill University Health Centre will pay $108 million to the SNC-Lavalin consortium, called the McGill Healthcare Infrastructure Group.
The consortium sued the MUHC for $360 million in cost overruns with the building of the Glen superhospital.
The body overseeing the construction of the hospital in Montreal said much of the additional payment consists of fees already owed, and the overall $1.3-billion budget to build the hospital has been respected.
In the long term the calculated total budget for the Glen superhospital will reach $ 2.463 billion.
In May 2014, Radio-Canada announced that the consortium was asking for $ 170 million for unscheduled work. After two years of unsuccessful negotiations, the consortium filed a $ 360 million claim in the Superior Court, more than double the original claim and 27% of the anticipated construction cost.
” The $108 million doesn’t take into account the public money spent on legal fees. Not just on this file but in the other disputes with the consortium. There is only so much money in the budget.” Manuel Fernandes Manuel’s Blog
