On Monday, Yanaï Elbaz, admitted to receiving a $10-million bribe in return for helping engineering firm SNC-Lavalin win the contract to build the MUHC Superhospital.

He pleaded guilty to receiving a bribe, breach of trust, conspiring to launder money with the late hospital CEO Arthur Porter, and transporting or transferring the proceeds of a crime.

Both the defense and prosecutor recommended to Quebec Court Judge Claude Leblond, that he serve a 39-month prison term. Judge Leblond is expected to decide whether he agrees with the recommendation on Wednesday.

As part of the same hearing, the Crown announced that it would not prosecute Yohann Elbaz on charges of conspiracy, recycling the proceeds of crime and using false documents.

Lawyers revealed that $6 million of the $10 million Elbaz received in bribes has been recovered. Therefore, $4 million dollars divided by 39-month prison term, totals $102,564 per month and a by-weekly amount of $51,282.
