According to the Ministry of Health and Social Services, the McGill University Health Center (MUHC) topped the list of the 21 health care institutions that finished the 2017-2018 fiscal year in deficit.
The MUHC recorded a $25.5-million dollar deficit, second place went to the CISSS, Est-de-l’Île-de-Montréal with a deficit of $25-million.
Among the causes is an increase in the cost of prescriptions drugs, overtime and sick leave.
The law states that the institutions with a deficit must approve a plan to return to a balanced budget the following year.
