Dr. Pierre Gfeller, head of the McGill University Health Centre, announced at Monday’s public board meeting that there will be a cochlear implant program in Montreal and that the MUHC will be part of the program.
The program will be shared between the MUHC and its French-language counterpart the Centre hospitalier de l’Université de Montréal (CHUM).
A cochlear implant is a small electronic device that can help to provide a sense of sound to a person who is profoundly deaf or severely hard-of-hearing. The implant consists of an external portion that sits behind the ear and a second portion that is surgically placed under the skin.
