This year, a new test for the early detection of endometrial and ovarian cancer wins the 2018 Science Discovery People’s Choice Award of the Year. The test named “DOvEEgene,” was selected by almost a third of all the Québec Science magazine readers.

Developed by a team from the Research Institute of the McGill University Health Centre (RI-MUHC), led by Dr. Lucy Gilbert, and Dr. Kris Jardon, in collaboration with researchers at Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine, the test is capable of detecting more than 70 per cent of early ovarian and endometrial cancers with a high accuracy rate.

Together, uterine and ovarian cancers, which are usually difficult to identify, are the third leading cause of cancer deaths among women.
