Since 1977, AMI-Quebec (Action on Mental Illness) a grassroots not-for-profit organization has been committed to helping families manage the effects of mental illness through support, education, guidance, and advocacy. This helps caregivers to provide the best support to their loved one while taking care of their own well-being.
Caregiving is often a challenging and long-term responsibility for which family members are not necessarily prepared. AMI-Quebec helps families to cope with these difficulties by better understanding mental illness and their own situations.
Family includes those in the circle of support of someone living with mental illness (parents, spouses, siblings, adult children, friends, etc.) Many of the programs are open to anyone and may also be of special interest to those living with mental illnesses.
According to Vivian Stamatopoulos, a professor at the University of Ontario Institute of Technology. “More than 1.25 million Canadians between the ages of 15 and 24 provide unpaid care to family members with chronic illnesses, disabilities, mental-health issues, substance-use problems and age-related conditions, and their numbers are on the rise.” SOURCE
All AMI-Quebec programs are free and the workshops are offered on a regular basis and often will repeat. Click HERE to sign up for AMI-Quebec emails and be notified of new programs and dates.
All in person workshops are held at the AMI office and you must register in advance! Online workshops do not require registration, can be viewed from anywhere, and are recorded so you can watch later if you miss the live event.
