Health Minister Danielle McCann stated that Quebec’s health care centres are working to increase the number of positions for nurses, nursing assistants and orderlies.
McCann who previously said she wanted to “restore a quality of life” for nurses, wants to make the job more attractive by reducing burn-out, mandatory overtime, nurse-to-patient ratios and create more full-time positions.
The issue of mandatory overtime for nurses has been making headlines after unions held a daylong strike on mandatory overtime on April 8.
An orderly who works at the Montreal General Hospital, confirmed to Manuel’s Blog under the condition her name not be used, “Orderly positions are being posted internally, but most part-time orderlies already work full shifts, so how is that going to increase the help?”
The minister said on Monday that in the coming days she expects to see a report on the results of the efforts.
