Family Charged With Defrauding the CHUM Research Center for $1.3 Million Over 14 Years

Four family members face multiple charges for defrauding the Centre hospitalier de l’Université de Montréal Research Center (CRCHUM) for more than $1.3 million from 2000 to 2014 by obtaining lump sums and undue wages.

According to La Presse, in a summons filed at the Montreal courthouse, Sylvie Dagenais, who worked at the CHUM as a Medical Assistant and Clinical Research Coordinator from 1998 to 2014, faces seven counts of forgery and fraud.

In anticipation of the CHUM’s move to the new superhospital, a human resources consultant noticed that there were two employee files in the name of Sylvie Dagenais.

Sûreté du Québec investigator Karine St-Jean, testified that the accused received a salary of 35 hours per week from the CHUM and a salary of 45 hours per week from the CRCHUM.

Three other people are also accused of doing the same things. They are Danny Edisbury, 56, spouse of Mrs. Dagenais, and their sons Francis Edisbury (30) and Carl Edisbury (32).
