With the increase in the number of new HIV cases across Canada, HIV self-testing kits are being evaluated to convince Health Canada to approve the self-test for use as early as 2020.
The clinical trial will collect data on 1,000 people who will take the one-minute, finger-prick blood test at sexual health clinics in several provinces.
According to the Public Health Agency of Canada as of 2016, more than 63,000 Canadians were living with HIV also one in seven were unaware of their condition.
