“Major problems” with the McGill University Health Centre (MUHC) computer systems forces cancellation of surgeries, clinics and diverts ambulances to other hospitals.

Monday morning the MUHC PA system announced, across the medical centre sites, a IS Level 3 problem with the clinic information system. A sourced who asked their named not be mentioned informed MB that the MUHC computer system consists of five levels.

The system failure which began Monday around 11.30 am, forced the cancellation of surgeries and prevented online access to patients files, test requests and results, medication distribution and the appointment system.

Emergencies were shutdown and ambulances detoured to other hospitals and the medical centre posted on Facebook, asking the public to seek medical help elsewhere.

Patients already hospitalized had their test or treatment requests made by the clerical staff using paper forms.

The MUHC announced that the system failure does not appear to be a cyberattack and has launched an investigation to determine the cause. According to the latest information received, the network was back and running at approximately 4.15 p.m.
