The Former Royal Victoria Hospital Earns Millions as Film Sets for TV Series and Movies

Figures obtained by the Canadian Press, show that between 2016 and 2018 the McGill University Health Centre (MUHC) raised $2.6 million from renting out the old Royal Victoria Hospital as film sets for television series and movies.

With the appearance of a medieval-looking fortress on the southern slope of the Mount-Royal, the Scottish baronial buildings are particularly attractive to producers.  Metamorphosing the Royal Vic into one of Montreal’s most frequently filmed locations, according to the Bureau du cinéma et de la télévision du Québec (BCTQ).

Film shoots at the heritage site include: Blood and Treasure: $94,219, The Disappearance: $131,322, Jack Ryan: $311,232, Teen Spirit: $353,313, Death Wish: $519,594, Bon Cop Bad Cop and La Bolduc.

The Royal Victoria Hospital was inaugurated in 1893 and closed in April 2015 after the MUHC Glen superhospital opened.
