Chine announced 89 new deaths this Sunday taking the total to 811 dead, making the new coronavirus more deadly than that of SARS (severe acute respiratory syndrome), which killed 774 people worldwide between 2002-3.

Chinese authorities also listed 2,600 new confirmed cases, a significant drop in the daily average. Prompting, the World Health Organization (WHO) officials on Saturday to estimated that the number of infections reported daily in China is “stabilizing,” even if it is too soon to conclude that the epidemic has passed its peak.

“We have a four-day stability period where the number of reported cases has not increased. This is good news, and it could reflect the impact of the controls that have been put in place,” said Michael Ryan, WHO program manager.
