The Quebec government announced Thursday a bonus package worth $287 million for the province’s 269,000 public healthcare workers and 34,000 patient attendants working in private residences for the elderly.

Details of the bonus package were revealed in Quebec by the Treasury Board President, Christian Dubé, and Health Minister Danielle McCann.

Bonuses will be retroactive to March 13 until May and “could be renewed”, depending on the situation. According to the Treasury Board President payment will be as follows:

  • All 200,000 public healthcare workers such as laboratory technicians, housekeepers, kitchen staff and 811 telephone operators will be paid a 4 per cent bonus.
  • The 69,000 employees who work in intensive care, emergency, long-term care and screening clinics who are likely to come in contact with COVID-19 infected patients will see an increase of 8 per cent.
  • Patient attendants working in private residences for the elderly will receive $4 an hour.

The bonuses are not part of the ongoing collective agreement negotiations between Quebec and public health and social services unions.
