Quebec has designated the McGill University Health Centre (MUHC) a coronavirus treating medical hospital.

Phase 3 was implemented just days after Health Minister Danielle McCann activated phase 2, which designated among others the Centre hospitalier de l’université de Montréal (CHUM), and two other Montreal hospitals, the Maisonneuve-Rosemont and Sacré-Coeur as COVID-19 treatment centres.

Following phase 2, the MUHC was permitted to treat patients who tested positive at the medical centre. With phase 3, the MUHC 156 available beds at the MGH and Glen campus will now receive and treat COVID-19 patients from other hospitals.

Hospital administration confirmed that if necessary several hundred more beds will be made available.
