While Quebec Premier Francois Legault, calls on doctors to volunteer as nurses to help out long-term care facilities, opposition Jacques-Cartier MNA Greg Kelley wants help from the Canadian Armed Forces.

The Jacques-Cartier MNA, a former member of the Committee on Health and Social Services, wants all resources mobilized to assist healthcare workers in the residences, and has sent a letter to Health Minister Danielle McCann asking her to request military help.

One daughter whose father is at the CHSLD in Sainte Dorothee, where there exist over 100 confirmed COVID-19 cases, supports the idea of incorporating the army.

“You’re talking about young people, they’re trained, dynamic and usually they know how to take care of people and they became soldiers to help society,” Ginette Gagnon told CTV News.

Premier Legault stated he would welcome military support, but maintains for the moment the help is not available.

“I said that if we can get some help from the Canadian Army with people that have the training to do this work, I will accept this help, but right now, until a few minutes ago, I didn’t have this help,” said Legault. “They are maybe talking about a thousand, we need two thousand, so I’m asking doctors to come and help work as nurses in our CHSLDs in the meantime.”
