First Quebec Patient Attendant Death Related to COVID-19 at CHSLD

According to CUPE union president, the patient attendant had worked several extra shifts to meet basic needs of the establishment.

The Syndicate canadien de la fonction publique (SCFP) part of the largest labour federation in Quebe (FTQ) announced on April 18, announced the first Quebec patient attendant (PAB) death related to COVID-19.

According to the union statement, the employee had more than 25 years of experience and worked at CHSLD Grace Dart in the Hochelaga-Maisonneuve district. She was still at work on April 11 and worked several extra shifts to meet basic needs of the establishment..

“It is with great regret that SCFP Local 2881 learned of the death related to COVID-19 of a beneficiary attendant (PAB) at the CIUSSS de l’Île-de-l’Île-de-Montréal. Our thoughts are above all with her family and colleagues and we convey our sincere condolences to them,” declared Jonathan Deschamps, President of the CUPE 2881 union in a press release.

“On behalf of the CUPE extended family, we extend our sympathy to the family, colleagues and all of the workers who are on the front-line during this crisis. Know that we are crying with you today, but that tomorrow we will continue the fight on all fronts to ensure that these essential employees can do their jobs safely, ” said Benoit Bouchard, President of SCFP-Québec.
