On Wednesday, Canada extended a ban on non-essential international travel entries until the end of October as the nation struggles in a surge of coronavirus cases.

Public Safety Minister Bill Blair announced the government would maintain the non-essential travel ban, which has been in force since mid-March. With an exception for spouses, children, parents, permanent residents, and guardians of Canadian citizens.

Non-essential travel from the U.S. into Canada, except for essential workers, is banned until October 21.

The restriction follows the second wave of Covid-19 infections triggered in part by the return of millions of Canadians to work or school.
