The Fédération de la santé et des services sociaux (FSSS), affiliated with the CSN, terminated its strike a few hours after it was declared. The union cited the progress made with the government during the Sunday night negotiation blitz was so significant that it decided to end the strike before it had begun.
The FSSS did not release details of the “agreement.” However, according to news sources, the new agreement in principle with the Fédération des travailleurs et travailleuses du Québec, the largest labour federation in Quebec, increases pay rates by 2% in 2020-2021, 2% in 2021-2022 and 2% in 2022-2023.
In addition, the agreement provides more generous wage increases for the lowest-paid workers and higher entry-level wages in some job titles.
It will be doubtful that Quebec would provide different pay rate increases amongst the province’s public healthcare care sector central unions. Therefore, it is reasonable to assume that the FSSS pay rate increase will be six percent over a three-year contract, including more generous increases for the lowest-paid…
During the 2015 contract negotiations, the FSSS-CSN demanded a three-year pay rate increase of 13.5 percent but settled for 5.25 percent over five years.
